Lindsay and Elizabeth Gordon Award for Future Health Professionals

The Lindsay and Elizabeth Gordon Award for Future Health Professionals award is for undergraduate Aboriginal students who are not currently registered in a health science program but are interested in pursuing future training in health professions. This award is open to students from both UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan in any year of study who are full-time students in undergraduate programs and are made on the recommendation of the Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You are an undergraduate student of First Nations (Status or Non-Status), Inuit or Metis ancestry
  • You are not currently registered in a health science program
  • You are interested in pursuing future training in a health profession
  • You are in good academic standing
  • You are enrolled as a full-time student at UBC Vancouver or UBC Okanagan in the 2015W session
  • You meet the minimum requirements for holding and retaining awards stated in the UBC Senate Regulations Governing University Awards

Additional Documentation Required

Statement of Intent
A letter describing your educational goals, your vision for the future, your dedication to improving the health of Aboriginal people, and why you are interested in pursuing future training in a heath profession. Please include any relevant achievements or awards. Letters are not to exceeded 1000 words in length.

Letters of Recommendation
Two signed letters of recommendation from an employer, professor, research advisor, or community member who can speak to your academic achievement and future potential as a health professional. References must be current.

Transcript
If your previous year of study was not at UBC an official transcript from your previous institution must be submitted. Continuing UBC students do not need to submit transcripts.

Financial Need Statement
A statement about your financial situation; please include any exceptional circumstances that you believe the adjudication committee should be aware of. Please include information about any student loan debt, line of credit, etc. Statement is not to exceed 500 words in length.

Complete the online application form: Lindsay and Elizabeth Gordon Award for Future Health Professionals 2015W Application Form. Your Statement of Intent and Financial Need Statement will be uploaded as part of the online application form.

Reference letters may be emailed to savanah.knockwood@ubc.ca directly by the referee. Mailed reference letters must be in a sealed envelope and have been signed over the seal by the referee.

Important Dates

Completed application forms and supporting documentation must be received by the Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health by 11:59 PM PST on April 8th, 2016. Late or incomplete application forms will not be accepted.
