Indigenous Cultural Safety Interdisciplinary Learning Experience

The Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health (CEIH) in partnership with UBC Health has launched a new interdisciplinary learning experience, which has been designed to address calls to action 23 and 24 on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. The new course consists of an introduction module, 8 hours of online work and one in-person ICS Cultural Humility and Allyship workshop. Topics covered include Aboriginal history in Canada, colonization and the impacts on the health and wellbeing of Indigenous populations, Aboriginal health governance, racism and discrimination in healthcare, Indigenous perspectives on health, and the strength and resiliency of the Indigenous peoples of Canada.

This learning experience is available to all incoming UBC Medicine and Health Science students, and is taken on a pass/fail. Upon successful completion of all the modules, students receive a certificate of completion.
